Official 7 Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft

It's good to be back with another Mock! As you can guess, a 7 rounder is very difficult due to the time and effort involved. I research each player very thoroughly and look at tons of rankings and other mocks to get the best feel for what exactly will happen come draft time. This is my final guess on where everyone will end up this April. That being said, the day before (Or Morning of) the draft I'll release one more stab at the first round as more rumors, signings, trades, etc. pop up (Ex: Expect Walker and Stingley to rise in my next one. It's been a few weeks since I started this bad boy). I'm confident this will be one of, if not the most, accurate full mocks out there. The first round will be pretty tight to where I see certain players as fits, trades that may occur, and around where I see players being picked. The later rounds won't feature any new trades but will be a good indication of more team fits and pick/round ranges for players.

This is the third of a 4 part series of mocks I’m doing on this page. As I mentioned before, I'll put out a final 1 rounder the night before the draft as an addendum to the first round in this mock. This mock draft WILL have trades as we have a pretty solid idea for what’s to come and who needs to/can move to get what they need. This mock is my stab at what will actually happen for the entirety of the 2022 NFL draft. I will definitely have some picks and such wrong, but I think this will be an accurate picture of what we can generally expect for this year's draft. Let’s get rippin’:

Round 1

1. Jacksonville Jaguars - DE/Edge Aidan Hutchinson Michigan:

This pick isn't changing for me and won't. Not only is Hutchinson the #1 player in this draft but he's the perfect fit for The Jags after switching to a 3-4 system with the new regime. He'll line up as that base 3-4 end and generate a great rush inside, but he'll often jump outside and spare Chaisson or Key in Nickle packages.

Pick 2 TRADE Detroit Lions to Seattle Seahawks

Seattle gets #2, 2023 6th - Detroit gets #9, #40, 2023 1st, 2023 4th

2. Seattle Seahawks- OT Evan Neal Alabama:

Seattle could stand to upgrade in quite a few spots, but there's only one clear space where they still desperately need a starter: OT. They could possibly stay put and still grab Cross at 9, but as you'll see that's a risky scenario as I expect the three top OT's to become all the rage at the start of this draft. Seattle has a ton of draft capital after the Russell Wilson trade and I believe Pete Carroll is confident in his teams ability to remain a contender without Wilson (whether they can actually meet that standard is another story). In this scenario, everyone will think they're going Malik Willis once the trade's announced but I really believe Seattle thinks Lock could be the guy. If that's so, they can take their top tackle and Carroll will love the size and potential Neal has on the left side. Barring retirement, the next two or three years will prove how much of the Hawks' success in the 2010s was really Pete's coaching and player development ability.

3. Houston Texans- OT Ikem Ekwonu NC State:

The Seattle trade has absolutely zero affect on what happens with Houston's pick. The Texans could use a lot of help, but with their new commitment to Davis Mills as the QB of the future priority one has to be protecting him. Tunsil has LT locked down, allowing them to play Ekwonu at his best fit RT (Where Neal wouldn't have been as ideal). I still believe that Ekwonu would be a day one pro bowler at Guard and needs a bit more work in pass protection to be a RT. Houston probably has enough going for them on the line to get by with him starting his career inside if needed.

4. New York Jets- CB Ahmad Gardner Cincinnati:

This is where the trickle down of Seattle's trade begins. I really believe that this pick is a Tackle if that trade isn't made, and it still could be with Cross sitting here. The Jets need to score a pair of starters at either OT, DB, and Edge with their two top picks (Though WR is a sleeper too). Of all those positions, I'm confident Gardner is the highest on their board and corner is the weakest position of the 4 at the top of this draft. Sauce will be a great fit in New York with Saleh, changing the defensive culture for good.

Pick 5 TRADE New York Giants to Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta gets #5 - The Giants get #8, #74, 2023 3rd

5. Atlanta Falcons- QB Kenny Pickett Pitt:

QB is another position, much like OT, that is going to rise a bit at the top of this draft. A few things make the top two signal callers experience this rise: A nice size gap from QBs 1 & 2 to QB 3 as well as a bidding war for the two very QB needy teams picking early in 2022. That bidding war becomes a much bigger deal when you realize that the two teams involved are division rivals. I think it's clear that Pickett is Atlanta's guy, they like Willis' skills but much prefer Pickett and they were all out at his pro day. Atlanta knows that if they don't make this trade, their guy will be playing them twice a year for the foreseeable future. Two thirds seems like a really small price to pay to get your guy and make sure that a division rival doesn't.

6. Carolina Panthers- QB Malik Willis Liberty:

I'm confident Carolina would be really happy with either Pickett or Willis and QB will be the pick here no matter what. Quarterback really feels like the missing piece for a really talented roster in Carolina and they were aggressively looking to get a solution this off-season. After striking out so far in 2022 I think missing out on Pickett will sting a bit, but Willis is still a good option for a long term QB1. Darnold will open the season but Matt Rhule will be looking for any excuse to rush his new franchise guy onto the field.

7. New York Giants- Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux Oregon:

8. New York Giants- OT Charles Cross Mississippi State:

New York makes the best move of this draft by taking the trade with Atlanta at 5. As long as our theories about Carolina taking a QB are true, The Giants gain a few picks without any risk of losing the player they were planning to take at 5. Then, they're able to stop the defensive slide and address the pass rush with a sure to be star in Thibodeaux. I know what I said before about the Wink Martindale-Travon Walker fit but that was with Thibodeaux long gone, you can't do that if things fall into your lap this nicely. Next, they're able to feel more comfortable taking a bit of a luxury for Daniel Jones because of the picks they were able to acquire. If Matt Peart really is ready to step up at Tackle, they should have no problem moving him for a mid-later round pick. Cross is the last sure fire star available at Tackle and having the edges secured will make a big difference for a lousy line in New York.

9. Detroit Lions- Edge George Karlaftis Purdue:

Detroit made the right move sliding back with Seattle. It's tough to still barely miss out on Thibodeaux but no matter which way you go at 9 (Karlaftis, Jermaine Johnson, or Travon Walker) you get a top 10 talent on the Edge. I believe Karlaftis is the best pure rusher of the three, which is what attracts Dan Campbell to him. In 2021, The Lions made a great pick with Sewell by taking the player with the best tape rather than a guy who's "Just scratching the surface", which is a good description of Johnson and Walker. The Lions stick to that strategy here and get a great scheme fit in Karlaftis, I'd expect close to 10 year one sacks out of him in Detroit's system.

10. New York Jets- WR Garrett Wilson Ohio State:

The Jets have to be really happy with how things have fallen for them at 10. At this point, two of the players they were considering at 4 are still sitting here for their second pick (Wilson and Walker). While I think Edge is their biggest need, The Jets stay true to their board once again and grab Zach Wilson his new WR1. Wilson will allow 2021 rookie Elijah Moore to start in the slot, where he's best suited, and provide this offense with the truly complete receiver they need to maximize Moore and Corey Davis' skill sets. P.S. Walker and Johnson dropping out of the top 10 isn't a knock on them, this is just a really deep Edge draft and teams feel okay waiting and jumping on thinner positions.

11. Washington Commanders- S Kyle Hamilton Notre Dame:

There will be teams calling to move up to 11 and steal one of these Edges, I would even expect Houston to inquire here looking to leap Minnesota and grab Walker (If he's their guy). Washington will have no interest in moving down with Hamilton sitting here at 11. Besides, moving past Houston probably puts you out of the Hamilton market anyway. If Ron Rivera believes his team is a contender, this may be the final piece. That defense is world class in terms of talent but often let down on the back-end, Hamilton fixes that immediately.

12. Minnesota Vikings- DE/Edge Travon Walker Georgia:

This is the PERFECT fit for a unique player like Walker and a dream scenario for a team without a lot of needs in Minnesota. Walker is a freak athlete with a very high ceiling but he is in no way ready to be relied on as a starting Edge Rusher. He can set the Edge well and be relied on as a run defender from that spot but he's a ways off in terms of Pass Rush from the Edge. Minnesota could use an interior DL upgrade and some depth on the Edge: match made in heaven. Walker can begin his career playing mostly interior DE in this 3-4 and get some training/mentorship for Edge duties. The Vikings can be patient with Walker and help him reach his ceiling.

13. Houston Texans- Edge Jermaine Johnson Florida State:

Houston ends the last of the big top 10 slides by selecting Johnson here at 13. In any other year, Johnson would be almost a lock for a top 10 pick. He's a physical freak and true Edge Rusher, unlike Walker who's a bit of an inbetweener type. That said, he's really solid in run support as well and has all the tools to eventually become an overall star in Houston. I think The Texans are big fans of Hamilton, Walker, and Johnson so The Jets pick tat 10 was really exciting for them. I do think Walker is their preferred player of the three but they're going to be totally fine with keeping their picks and letting this scenario play out.

Pick 14 TRADE Baltimore Ravens to Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers get #14 - Baltimore gets #17, #123, 2023 3rd

14. Los Angeles Chargers- OT Trevor Penning Northern Iowa:

A 4th and a future 3rd is a small price to pay to protect your future QB for years to come. L.A. knows that if they don't pull the trigger on this deal Penning is likely heading to the Bayou at 16. The Slater pick in 2021 paid huge dividends in health and confidence for Herbert despite an otherwise crumbling O-Line. The Chargers have done nothing thus far to address their protection issues for the '22 season and head into the draft needing to find a starter at both RT & RG and they could really stand to upgrade over Feiler at LG as well. While there's other tempting spots to address, Herbert absolutely needs more protection and this is the last sure fire Day 1 starter at Tackle in the draft.

15. Philadelphia Eagles- CB Derek Stingley Jr. LSU:

This is a dream pick for The Eagles and it really feels like it's more than likely going to happen. I think it'll take the right fit to move on Stingley earlier than this pick, some teams may consider bumping up above Philly for him but I don't believe many teams will have him much higher than Trent McDuffie.

16. New Orleans Saints- DT Jordan Davis Georgia:

This is a pick that's going to surprise a lot of people, including The Ravens, but there's a lot of uncertainty around NOLA's draft after their trade with Philly. I see it like this, they know LT absolutely needs to be addressed and there's a few more spots that could use an upgrade (WR, LB, DT). New Orleans believes they're a team that can win now and they made this move to grab the best available pieces to make that happen. Penning was the pick here but L.A. pulled the rug out from under The Saints. That means they're going to upgrade one of those other spots and what better way to do so than with the number one player on your board.

17. Baltimore Ravens- C Tyler Linderbaum Iowa:

Baltimore shoots themselves in the foot a bit with the trade here but it forces them to make the right pick with Linderbaum. If The Ravens stay put at #14 the pick is Jordan Davis and I fully believe that he's the guy they want. I think internally there's going to be a push from some parties to address the team's biggest need at Center, the trade takes place and draft shepherds Baltimore in Linderbaum's direction. This is going to seem early for Linderbaum but let me point out a few things here: 1. He's a top 5 player talent wise 2.Teams are seeing the difference Creed Humphrey made last year in K.C. and Center will be less undervalued this time around 3.This position is very thin moving forward in the draft and The Ravens need to address it desperately (Not to mention so do quite a few other teams). P.S. I also expect Jacksonville to make a push to move up for Linderbaum if he's sliding to the mid-20s.

18. Philadelphia Eagles- WR Treylon Burks Arkansas:

The run on Receiver begins! Wide out could potentially be the pick from 18 to 24 in this scenario, it all just depends on where the chips fall. Each team will have their own preference: Williams is more in that Garrett Wilson convo if healthy but unfortunately he's not outside of his unique situation Burks, Olave, and London seem like clear Day 1 locks too while it's likely either of Dotson or Watson hears their name called in the 1st as well...maybe even both. Philly prefers a big bodied more physical receiver for Hurts at this point and opts for Burks over Drake London. Burks will give a great counterpart for WR1 DeVonta Smith and Philly will now be able to rotate in deep threats Quez Watkins and Jalen Reagor. Hurts is going to have quite a mixture of different talents to throw to.

19. New Orleans Saints- WR Jameson Williams Alabama:

Lo and Behold, is that The Saints making another very win now move? This pick signals that New Orleans will take their chances getting one of the lower tier Tackles in the 2nd Round (Or maybe not at all) and take a stab at a cheaper veteran like Duane Brown or Eric Fisher to fill Armstead's shoes in 2022. Williams will be a huge upgrade in the starting lineup once healthy and Jameis has plenty of tools to play with in the meantime. This is a move you make if you expect to be in the playoff race and once again, New Orleans does.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers- QB Desmond Ridder Cincinnati:

Not the pick I'd want to see here but Ridder has really grown on me. Let's be honest, Colbert staying around for the draft can mean only one thing: The Steeler's want him to fine Ben's replacement before riding into the sunset. Ridder would be a really good fit in Pittsburgh and I believe he's really begun to seperate himself as the only QB in this 2nd tier. Howell and Corral could slid into the end of the first for the right suitor but are likely second round pics. This could be a spot where The Steelers move back a bit but if Ridder is Colbert's guy why risk it for a few mid-round picks?

Pick 21 TRADE New England Patriots to Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City gets #21 - New England gets #29, #94, #121, #251

21. Kansas City Chiefs- CB Trent McDuffie Washington:

K.C.'s thinking what I'm thinking here, how's this guy still around? There's three top tier corners in this draft and McDuffie is one of them. While I do think there's a gap from Gardner to Stingley and then from Stingley to McDuffie there's no way that it's big enough for McDuffie to still be here. There's scenarios where all 3 are gone by 12 or 13. The Chief's have three big needs to address CB, Edge, and RT and McDuffie is the last sure thing on the board that fills one of those. I know everyone wants to see WR here but I think Mahomes and company feel fine where they're at. Side Note: K.C. has too much fire power in this draft and too few needs not to make a move if the right talent is there.

22. Green Bay Packers- WR Chris Olave Ohio State:

The question here really is Olave or Drake London? Green Bay so desperately needs a WR and two members of that top group are still around, the difficult part of this is that they're absolute polar opposites in playing style. London is that big bodied jump ball guy that the Packers love to covet but they have a solid player like that in Allen Lazard. What Rodgers needs is someone more in the direction of what Adams gave them, a silky smooth route runner. While Olave needs some work to become that there's definitely some great similarities between the two. Until his routes come along he can rely on his smooth direction changes and superior speed to get open and instantly be the most explosive weapon on this offense.

23. Arizona Cardinals- WR Drake London USC:

Arizona is far from the position they were in at last year's draft. This is no longer a complete roster and there are many holes that need filling. Despite having their hand in the remaining Free Agent WR cookie jar, this is a position that needs addressed on draft day whether they sign someone or not. If Kyler is your long term guy there needs to be some continuity moving forward with his supporting cast. London fills the need on the outside and is the best player available at this point in the draft. I still wouldn't be shocked to see an Edge here, either Ojabo or Mafe could make sense but Arnold Ebiketie could be a sleeper here as a high upside player who's a perfect scheme fit.

24. Dallas Cowboys- OT Bernhard Raimann Central Michigan:

Once again, the run on Tackles early is going to elevate several players Raimann being one of them. Dallas has a lot of spots they can upgrade and several of those are on the O-Line. I believe The Cowboys like what they have in Terence Steele but they need some help on this line desperately. If Raimann isn't ready day one he can still sit and wait but his upside is fantastic. Dallas also needs to look to the future a bit on this line, I'm not sure that Tyron Smith has a ton of Football left.

25. Buffalo Bills- CB Andrew Booth Jr. Clemson:

Buffalo has no major needs but quite a few spots where they could upgrade for their next playoff run. Speaking of the playoffs, the biggest culprit in last year's failures happens to be the secondary. One sure fire way to prevent a 13 second game tying drive is to have physical corners who can slow down receivers with tight press coverage. Despite being a bit raw Booth excels at doing just that in addition to fantastic ball-hawking skills in Zone coverage. He can be a great long term fit for Buffalo and they have the personnel to bring him along at his own pace. Hopefully for Josh Allen, he'll be ready to slow up opposing receivers come playoff time.

Pick 2 TRADE Tennessee Titans to Detroit Lions

Detroit gets #26 - Tennessee gets #32, #97, #181

26. Detroit Lions- LB Devin Lloyd Utah:

Look at that, Detroit's out here wheelin' and dealin' again. This is how I view Campbell's coaching style and I think it'll be on full display in this year's draft. Detroit has begun to put the pieces in place to actually have a shot at winning, which is a big change from the roster Campbell inherited last year. He sticks to his style of picking players with great tape and grabs one of the best pure playmakers in this draft. Lloyd fits the versatile Linebacker mold DC Aaron Glenn likes to play with and is instantly the best LB on the roster. He'll be quite a chess piece for The Lions and form a unique duo with versatile 2021 Rookie Derrick Barnes. If The Lions want Goff's eventual successor they have two early 2nds and I expect some QB talent to still be available.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DT Devonte Wyatt Georgia:

This is one of those picks that a top team just has to make. I could see Wyatt going anywhere from 24 to 29 in this scenario and I think The Titans will be real tempted to stick at 26 and take him. The issue is that while Wyatt was used in a lot of different ways at Georgia, his best fit would be as a 4-3 3 technique DT in the Pros. He's going to be the top player on most teams boards as we approach the mid-20s and his versatility will allow him to start day 1 as a 3-4 End (which is where he fits in Tampa). It just won't be the perfect fit to highlight his strengths. This will be a huge and immediate upgrade for Tampa's interior pass rush post-Suh.

28. Green Bay Packers- LB Nakobe Dean Georgia:

This is another one of those picks that a playoff caliber team makes to pad their talent. Much like Wyatt, Dean is going to be hovering at the top of several teams boards for a while now. Green Bay filled their biggest need at 22 but still could use some upgrades on defense and the offensive line. Elgton Jenkins has the potential to slide out to RT which gives The Pack flexibility on the line and they could be okay going into the season without a major upgrade here. Dean is a superstar potential playmaker in the middle at a position where they'd benefit from another ultra-athletic Linebacker alongside De'Vondre Campbell. This defense could use more playmakers, especially in the front 7.

29. New England Patriots- OG Kenyon Green Texas A&M:

This fills The Pats' biggest need and is an absolute no brainer pick at 29, infact, I believe Green would still be the pick even if they stuck at 21. He's already a top tier NFL run blocker and an amazing scheme fit in New England. If I'm Belichick I'm a bit worried about trading back this far and still getting Green, but I think they'd still be pretty happy if Zion Johnson was the pick here as well. Green will make it even easier for this Patriots offense to only throw 5 times a game if they so continue to choose.

30. Kansas City Chiefs- Edge Boye Mafe Minnesota:

This is the exact range where I'd expect Mafe to end up and the fit could not be better. The Chiefs need more rush talent and they need it yesterday so that takes David Ojabo out of consideration. Mafe is the best Edge available at this point and he can make an impact immediately. While there's some sloppiness in his game and plenty of room to approve, Mafe has fantastic building blocks in place both technically and physically. Frank Clark will also be a perfect mentor for a rusher of Mafe's style.

31. Cincinnati Bengals- CB Kyler Gordon Washington:

This pick fills a need with a very high upside player in Gordon and I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t much of a stretch from where others have him on their big boards either. Gordon has fantastic instincts and athleticism but is a bit raw in his mechanics. He’ll have to sit a bit behind Eli Apple but Cincy has the tools to bring him along at his own pace and allow him to develop into the superstar he can be.

32. Tennessee Titans- QB Sam Howell UNC:

I was originally going to go Zion Johnson or even Travis Jones here but I really believe that Tennessee is hot in the QB race. That being said, even after their trade with Detroit they don't pick again until the 3rd round (twice). Chances are much higher they find a starting Guard and Nose Tackle in the 3rd than a serviceable future QB1. The question now becomes Howell or Matt Corral? I feel like Howell is a better fit for what Vrabel wants to do in Tennessee and sitting behind Ryan Tannehill for a bit will help him harness that arm strength developing into a very solid QB1. Vrabel's staff was also more heavily represented at Howell's pro day than Corral's.
